One of the problems with hip “music” marketing is that “listeners” don’t like being “sold to”. So here’s an idea people…why not tell listeners that they are being “sold” to?
In William Gibson’s very excellent post 9-11 novel “Pattern Recognition” one of the characters complains about “Viral” marketing because she can never be sure if conversations with strangers are real or if she is being “sold” something; the hidden marketing had cheapened a basic human interaction for her.
If the music is what’s being sold (and not the “Hipness”), being honest shouldn’t matter…should it?
