Woke up this morning singing the lyrics to “Us & Them” – it made me search out this CD to listen to on my commute into work (I ran out of Podcasts – everyone’s off for the summer). I don’t understand why I enjoy this CD so much…well I do in that I can identify various elements that I like, like Gilmour’s guitar playing, etc. but I don’t understand how they combine to make this work what I would consider a masterpiece. I didn’t really get into this album growing up (it was kind of a “stoner” badge of honour in high school) but over the years I keep on coming back to it and enjoying it every time I “discover it” again. I think this is what an “album” should sound like…something that’s lost in these days of “instant download” and “mass produced” music (hey, I’m not complaining or being nostalgic…music today is what it is and we’re all a part of that).
